MMA-Mixed Martial Arts
Combining Striking, Grappling, and Takedowns, MMA is a systematic and effective system. Learn to strike,wrestle, and submit your opponents. We cover Muay Thai, boxing, BJJ, Judo, Sombo techniques as well as ring/cage postitioning, fight game plan and conditioning during our MMA class.
BJJ-Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Brazilian jiu-jitisu (BJJ) is the grappling art made famous by Royce Gracie in the first UFC were he dominated his opponents. Emphasizing ground grappling, chokes, and joint locks BJJ is a highly effective martial art for anyone looking for self defense, competition, or just getting in shape.
Muay Thai/Boxing
Muay Thai is know for it’s vicous leg kicks and elbows. At SSF we combine Muay Thai with Boxing. Our Muay Thai program falls under Pro Muay Thai World Champion and Professional Boxer Mikhal Caldwell who is a founding father of the USMTA.
Sombo
Sombo is a Russian art that employs leg locks and neck cranks with Judo throws. SSF teaches Sombo as an invitation only class to it’s more advanced students and as a seminar to other schools. SSF is the only ASA certified school in TN.
Judo
In 1964, Judo became the first martial art to be sanctioned as a medal sport in the Olympic Games. Judo competitions are also held throughout the world. Points are awarded for throwing an opponent, holding an opponent on his back while on the mat for a designated amount of time, or forcing an opponent to submit via “tapping out” to an armlock or choke or rendering the opponent unconscious with a choke. A match is won with a “perfect throw” called an Ippon, two near perfect throws called Wazari, holding an opponent on his back on the mat for 25 seconds, a combination of one Wazari and holding an opponent down for 20 seconds, or submitting an opponent with a choke or armlock.
Kids Programs
Our kids program is a comination of BJJ, no gi submission wrestling and Judo.
